Woods & Walker – Member Spotlight

Give us a brief overview of your organisation?

Founded in 2015, we are a development, design & digital consultancy studio based in Newcastle Upon Tyne offering high end digital solutions. Our specialties include; UI/UX Design, Web & App Development, Prototyping and Proof of Concept, API Design, User Research, Server Architecture, Wireframing and Digital Project Consultation. We work with a selection of clients varying in sizes from new startups to large scale enterprises across many (and not limited to) industries including legal, transport, telecommunications and hospitality. Our design experience combined with our experience in development helps us ensure designs transition seamlessly from a mockup to reality. Our team of experts have collectively over 33 years experience, working across many fields and hold a depth of industry knowledge who work with our clients to design, develop and deliver innovative, smart and effective software and digital solutions. We offer a fully comprehensive approach to enable businesses to enhance their offering, influence industries and expose new opportunities to innovate within their business.

What are the benefits of basing your business in the North East?

The North East is our home, this is where Woods & Walker was founded and we love being based here. Whilst we work both globally and nationally, we love collaborating and working with the large variety of businesses based in the North East. Over the years, right from the beginning, we have had access to some great support and some great minds in the area who have helped us grow a very successful business. We must make a special mention to Northumbria University’s business hatchery, who without their support we might not be in business today! On a lighter note…our Managing Director, Oliver, is also a big NUFC fan so having an office so close to St James’ Park is a pretty big deal for him.

What have the past 2 years taught you?

COVID-19 has required us to adapt our working practices as not long before COVID arrived, we had moved into our new office and like most businesses we suddenly had to change from office working to remote working. We’ve now moved to a more hybrid model, so that our employees have the flexibility to work from home or the office. It required us to put a great deal of trust in the team at a time in the company where we were planning to grow the team. Everyone continued to deliver amazing work from home and delivered some rather complex projects all remotely.

What are your business objectives for the next 12 months?

We have experienced significant growth in the past year, with our team size nearly doubling and our order book being full with purely existing customer work. We hope to continue this growth, expanding the team further as well as connecting and working with new customers on exciting and innovative projects.

What are your hopes for the future of the North East’s tech and digital industry?

The North East is home to many great, innovative businesses and startups and we hope to see the tech scene continue to thrive. In a pre COVID world we would regularly attend tech meetups in person but have since noticed some of the previously popular meetups have dwindled in numbers and support. We hope to see them return as it was always interesting to see what was happening on the ground in the North East!

Why did you join Dynamo?

We joined Dynamo to help contribute to growing the North East tech scene. It’s a great community to connect and collaborate with fantastic organisations and individuals. Collectively we can raise awareness of the local tech industry as well as incubating and developing more successful digital solutions for startups and businesses in the region.
