The North East’s IT and Technology Awards

It was our sixth annual glittering Awards ceremony, sponsored by Gateshead College, which took place on Thursday 17th October 2019 at Newcastle’s Civic Centre banqueting hall and saw 400 guests attend. The event included:

  • Sparkling drinks reception on arrival – Sponsored by Institute of Coding at Newcastle University
  • 3 course meal with wine included
  • Accolade for the winners of Dynamites 19 awards
  • Guest host
  • Tickets for the evening for £94 + VAT per ticket, or £900+ VAT for a table of ten

We heard from organisations and individuals who have created innovative training, initiatives or apprenticeship programmes. If we are successfully developing skills in this region, our sector will grow.

DIGITAL CLUSTER CHAMPION – Sponsored by BT

This award celebrated an individual /organisation who has provided significant support to the development of Dynamo’s digital clusters. It recognised their ongoing work to shape strategies and implement events and activities to drive growth of the region’s digital specialisms. It also celebrated close collaboration with the Dynamo ream and networks. They have been instrumental in establishing Dynamo’s clusters and in driving innovation.

PROJECT OF THE YEAR – Sponsored by Scott Logic

Categories have focused on personalities and teams, but we were also fascinated to hear what the North East has delivered in terms of IT and tech projects. It could have been an innovative solution for a big data challenge, some clever programming of an app, a new academic insight or a revamp of a public sector system. It could have been a near-shore project that is operating for UK corporates, a collaborative public/private sector project, or a development for an international firm. This award was split into two categories:

This award recognised a high-flying student, apprentice or employee (with less than 3 years exp.) in the region’s IT sector. We looked for brilliant people in our industry. We heard all about these people coming up through the ranks. The individual had started to make a strong impact in their role, through attitude or output – they combined the ‘day job’ with extra projects beyond work and show leadership potential ahead of their grade.  The“Ones to watch” – our future tech leaders?

Part of Dynamo’s founding principles have been to shine a light on the amazing activity across the North East in the fields of IT, computing, software, data, AI, VR, building, digital, web, mobile… We are constantly amazed by discovering initiatives that are using local talent and making international waves. This award recognised an influential local entrepreneur, a mentor, a regional organisation with an impressive track record, or an innovation which has influenced the growth of our industry from a North East home.
