John Fitzgerald
Newcastle University
John heads the School of Computing at Newcastle University. An expert on the design of cyber-physical systems, the impact of his research has been felt in the development of new tools applied commercially in areas as diverse as firmware design and agricultural robotics, and from Europe to Asia. From working as Design and V&V manager in a successful start-up, he came back to academia in 2003 and later led for the School on the design of the multi-award winning Urban Sciences Building – the first major university building at Newcastle Helix and now the home of three national research centres and two centres for doctoral training in tech sectors.
